THE National Handball Premier League will now be known as the Ardova Handball Premier League.

This followed unveiling of the Ardova Plc. as the sponsor of the top tier handball league.

The unveiling held at Ardova Plc. corporate office at GRA, Lagos, on Friday.

The event was attended by some board members of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN).

The HFN team was led by the President, Sam Ocheho, while the Ardova team was led by its Chairman, Alhaji AbdulWasiu Sowami.

Both parties officially sealed the sponsorship of the league for another three years.

Ocheho said that since the sponsorship of the premier league by Prudent Energy and Services Ltd., the league had grown tremendously, putting Nigeria’s handball on a high pedestal

He said that the sponsorship also helped to expose best players in the league to international reckoning for over five years.

He expressed confidence that the league would achieve more with Ardova’s takeover as its sponsor.

The Chairman of Ardova, Alhaji Abdulwasiu Sowami, said that his team was confident of uplifting the federation especially at the league level.

The Executive Director of Prudent Energy and Services Ltd., Mrs Abiola Babatunde-Ojo, said that the sponsorship by Ardova would open doors for human capacity development in the federation.

According to her, 22 teams in the league (12 male teams and 10 female teams) will get an increased preparatory subsidy of N500,000, while winners will get N2.5 million prize money.

NAN reports that the first phase of the Ardova Handball Premier League, with the hash tag #APHPL, will hold in Benin City from July 1 to July 13. (NAN)
