IT was a taste of glamour on Thursday, March 24th, 2022 as friends and well wishers gathered at the National Institute of International Affairs, NIIA, Victoria Island, Lagos, to celebrate Azuh Arinze, a foremost journalist and convener of the ‘YES Magazine’ annual lecture, on the occasion of his 50th birthday celebration.
Arinze also lunched his new books, ‘A taste of success’ and ‘Conversation with showbiz stars’. Arinze has published seven books so far.
Babatunde Raji Fashola, minister for works and housing, who gave the keynote address virtually, urged Nigerians to have the conversations that will move the country’s democracy forward, noting that democracy on its own cannot guarantee good governance.
According to him, democracy focuses more on quantity rather than quality, it doesn’t ask the questions of qualification, or competence, it is a man- made process crated to guarantee that the popular candidate governs.
“If we truly want to impact on the larger number of the populace, then we must continuously have these conversations,” he said.
He also noted that these conversations on how our electoral process is being made is long overdue.
Reviewing the books, Richard Akinnola, described Arinze as a prolific writer and a seasoned journalist.
At 50, Arinze has been described by friends as a good friend, who sticks closer than a brother, never forgets to celebrate others, hardworking, humble and reliable.
The occasion, which was chaired by Olusegun Osoba, former governor, Ogun state, was graced by many dignitaries from all works of life, including Onyeka Onwenu, a foremost musician, Ngozi Nwosu, Nollywood actress, Rueben Abati, Isa Mustapha, President, Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, Femi Sowonlu, Julius Agu, comedian, journalists, Editors, and publishers, Steve Ayorinde, Quincy Ayodele, Joseph Olujime Agbaje, Funke Ebomode, commissioner for information, Osun State, Sammie Okposu, Bala Yusuf, representatives of NIMASA, Rotarians from district 9110, among others.
