THE Anambra State Government kicked off the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration with an official launch of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem.
The government enjoined men of the service to brace up in their duty of protecting life and property.
Gov. Willie Obiano, who was represented by his deputy, Nkem Okeke, said: `This is a day we should appreciate the services of our security men, who have laid their lives down for the sake of our freedom and safety.
“We must do our own bit to support them and their families at times like this.
“Anambra State Government will continue to support these veterans as a mark of appreciation toward the selfless sacrifice they make by fighting for and defending our land.’’
The governor called on members of the public to always support the Armed Forces in any way they could, especially the families of fallen heroes, who lost their lives defending the nation.
The State Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Ben Agbogu, said that the event was being used to raise funds for the upkeep of widows of fallen heroes and their dependants.
He described the day as very special and remarkable to members of the Armed Forces both serving and retired.
“It is day set aside by government to honour and support those, who devoted their active working years to the service of their fatherland,’’ he said.
Agbogu, however, lamented that the Nigerian Legion, Anambra State Council was faced with myriads of problems, including poor budgetary allocation, a lack of operational vehicles and no befitting office accommodation.
He called on the State Government to come to their aid.
