Col. Abubakar Mohammed, Commander of the 301 Artillery Regiment (General Support), Gombe, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to enhancing security and achieving greater success in the state.

Mohammed gave the assurance during the 2024 West Africa Social Activities (WASA) celebration, held on Saturday at the 301 Artillery Regiment football field in Gombe.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that WASA is an annual event organised by the Nigerian Army to celebrate the country’s diverse and rich cultural heritage.

The event brings together officers, soldiers, and their families in a relaxed atmosphere to mark the end of the year’s activities.

Mohammed stated that although Gombe is safe and peaceful, the army will continue collaborating with sister agencies to strengthen security and build on existing successes.

He noted that Gombe remains one of the most peaceful states in the Northeast, thanks to residents’ cooperation and the strong relationship between security agencies.

He emphasised that community support is crucial for maintaining peace and commended Gombe’s people for being “accommodating and welcoming.”

“In every organisation, military strength is not just about weapons but also about the support of the host community.

“This turnout clearly shows that we have the full backing of the community.

“The cooperation we’ve witnessed, along with participation from other security agencies, highlights our strong relationship with them.

“This partnership is one of the key factors contributing to Gombe’s security successes,” he said.

Mohammed noted that the collaboration between Gombe residents and security agencies has made the state a model for others across the country.

He urged residents to continue supporting and praying for security agencies, stressing that maintaining security is a collective effort.

While praising the colourful cultural displays, Mohammed encouraged residents to embrace diversity as a way of promoting peaceful coexistence.

The special guest of honour, Mr Emmanuel Ugwu, Managing Director of Hara Foam, acknowledged the army’s contributions to peace, unity, and national security.

Ugwu urged Nigerians to appreciate the sacrifices of security personnel, noting that such encouragement would boost their morale and enhance their dedication.

NAN reports that the event featured cultural performances from various ethnic groups, along with excellence awards for outstanding soldiers and other activities. (NAN)
