MAJ.-Gen. Ishaya Maina, Commandant, Army War College, Nigeria (AWCN), has led participants of the college’s Course 7/2023 on operational theater visit to the theatres of operations in the North East and North West.

The College Public Relations Officer, Maj. Hashimu Abdullahi, in a statement  Friday, said the participants visited the Joint Task Force Theatre Command, North East (NE); Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), North East; and Operation Hadarin Daji, North West.

Abdullahi said the visit was a major aspect of the Operational Art and Campaigning Module of the course, designed to give the participants a first-hand feel of conducting estimates to review plans for an ongoing operation, in an academic setting.

He said the module was intended to teach the participants the enhanced skills developed in the course for the Operational and Tactical Estimate processes.

The AWCN spokesman said the team was received in the North East by the Theatre Commander, Maj.-Gen. Gold Chibuisi, who gave them a brief overview of the operations being conducted in the North East and highlighted some of the challenges and successes that have been achieved so far.

He said the visit was an opportunity for the AWCN participants to gain a first-hand understanding of the challenges and complexities of the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North East.

Abdullahi said, “It also allowed them to interact with the troops and learn about their experiences.

“In his remarks, the Commandant, AWCN, Maj.-Gen. Maina commended the Theatre Commander for the warm reception and its efforts in the fight against terrorism and expressed his appreciation to the troops for their dedication and sacrifice.

“The visit was a valuable learning experience for the AWCN participants.

“It will help them to better understand the challenges of military operations and the importance of strategic planning.

“It will also help them to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to lead and command troops in future operations.”

Abdullahi said that the team also visited the Sector 1 and 7 Division Nigerian Army Maiduguri and the Theatre Command Operation Hadarin Daji in Zamfara, as well as 8 Division in Sokoto.

The college spokesman said the visit to Zamfara was led by the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies, Brig.-Gen. Aminu Umar.

He said the visit was aimed at providing participants with practical insights into conducting estimates and reviewing ongoing operational plans, within an academic framework.

“In an engaging and informative interaction, the participants were warmly received by the Commander, Joint Task Force, Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji/General Officer Commanding 8 Division Sokoto, Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut.

“The operational theatre visit initiative demonstrates a commitment to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application within the realm of military operations.

“During the visit, the participants gained valuable insights into the complexities of real-world operational planning and execution.

“The visit not only enriched the educational experience of the participants but also fostered collaboration between the College  and operational sectors of the military.

“The initiative embodies the dedication of the Army War College Nigeria to producing leaders who are well-equipped to tackle complex challenges in the evolving landscape of modern warfare.

“It also reaffirms the importance of practical exposure in complementing theoretical learning and ensuring that military professionals are prepared to make informed decisions and contributions to their respective commands,” he said. (NAN)
