THE Society of Nigerian Artists, Federal Capital Territory branch, has called on Nigerian artists to embark on social media training, to acquire skills on how to market and sell art works online.

The Chairman of the Society, Mr Chike Emembo, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.

Emembo said that using social media platforms to market art and craft products would earn artists and crafters huge amount of money.

According to him, the producers of these art and craft materials made little or no profit when they sell their products to middlemen who use their platforms to sell the products.

He said there was the need for these producers to embark on online intensive training and take advantage of social media to market and sell their products online.

“Some artists are actually selling, using social media; it is a critical thing as far as the sale is concerned.

“It is a successive approach, if it is properly harnessed.

“ There was a guy in Abuja here who became a successive artist after he finished his NYSC in 2017.

“He told me that he did not sell most of his art works to Nigerians but mostly to foreigners using Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms,’’ the chairman said.

”This man has made a lot of money from the sale of art works because he has over 40,000 followers on Twitter.

Emembo said that if the power of social media can be harnessed positively, so much can be achieved. (NAN)
