A Dei-dei Grade I Area Court sentenced an artisan, Tony Ushie to six months imprisonment for stealing a cooking gas and two pairs of canvas shoes.

Ushie of no fixed address was convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty to house breaking and theft.

He however begged the court for leniency.

The Judge, Mr Sulyman Ola, gave him an option to pay a fine of N25, 000, warned him to be of good behaviour and desist from committing crimes.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Babajide Olanipekun told the court that the complainant, Mercy Ayi of Mpape, Abuja reported the matter at the Mpape Police Station on Sept. 26.

Olanipekun said while the complainant was at work, Ushie broke into her apartment and stole a 6kg cooking gas, a stabiliser and two pairs of canvas all valued N46, 500.

The prosecution counsel said during police investigations, Ushie confessed to the crime and the stolen items were recovered.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 346 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
