Artistes Shine in Nigerian Entertainment Industry

IT was a year of creativity, celebration and mourning in the Nigerian entertainment industry. In 2015, some artistes who did not make much impact in the industry in 2014, made waves with their songs. Songs like, “Godwin” by Korede Bello, “Bobo” by Olamide, “Laye” by Kiss Daniel, “Collabo” by P-Square, “Sade” by Adekunle Gold, “My Woman, My Everything” by Patoranking and “Ojuelegba” by Wizkid all made waves across the country.

In a show of its dominance in African music, Nigerian musicians on Sunday, November 15, won eight awards at the 2015 All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, in Lagos, Nigeria. Praiz won the Best African Artiste (RnB & soul); Darey got Best African Artiste (Inspirational); Flavour snapped up Best African Artiste (African Electro); Revelation of the Year went to Adekunle Gold; Most Promising African Artiste to Kiss Daniel; Best African Artiste in Jazz to Kunle while Olamide and Yemi Alade won the Best West African Artiste, male and female categories, respectively.

It was a jubilant year for most Nigerian celebrities who tied the nuptial knots this year. Some of them are as follows, Paul Okoye and his longtime girlfriend Anita Isama finally got married earlier this year at Ikoyi Registry. Although the pair had their traditional wedding in March 2014, the pair only got married legally on January 22, 2015.

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, TV Personality, got married to Cynthia Obianodo on the October 3, 2015. The pair had their traditional wedding some days before the church wedding.

Tonto Dikeh, popular and controversial actress, surprisingly got married this year to Oladunni Churchill in a traditional ceremony which held on the August 30. Kas, popular singer, also got married earlier this year to his long time girlfriend Tare who he met in 2007. They got married in a traditional ceremony which held on the January, 10 2015.

Omawumi, beautiful singer, got married to Tosin Yusuf. Gbenga Ajibade and Osas Ighodaro, Tinsel stars, had one of the most fascinating wedding ceremonies of 2015 because it had a-list guests at the event. Their traditional wedding ceremony held in Benin City on June 20, 2015.

Chris Attoh and Damilola Adegbite, Nollywood stars, sealed their relationship with a marriage ceremony. The pair got married in a love studded ceremony on Valentine’s Day. IK Ogbonna, popular Nollywood actor, got married to Sonia Morales, his Colombian beauty girlfriend, in a lovely wedding ceremony.

Rotimi Alakija, popularly known as DJ Xclusive got married to Tinuke, his beautiful girlfriend. The traditional wedding held sometime this month and had in attendance several a-list celebrities. Dolapo Oni, media personality, got married to Gbite Sijuwade in a star studded wedding.

It was not all smiling for the industry in the year as it lost three of its veterans. Peter Bunor, veteran Nollywood actor, died on May 1, 2015, after a brief illness. Also Muna Obiekwe, Nollywood actor, died in January 2015. Another Nollywood veteran actor that died in 2015 was Ozor Akubueze.
