
Assembly to give Gov.Sule legal backing to reposition health sector

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has taken steps to give Gov. Abdullahi Sule legal backing to transform the state health sector.
The Speaker of the assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe, stated this while presiding over the House’s sitting in Lafia on Wednesday.
Balarabe said the move was aimed at making the state to conform with extant international best standards as well as to address the health challenges of the people of the state.
To this end, he said, the house had put a machinery in motion to pass into law, six different executive bills sent by the Governor to give legal backing to the state health institutions.
He said the move was also aimed at ensuring effective service delivery, adding that the bills had passed different stages of legislation at the floor of the house.
The speaker said that the bills if finally passed and signed into law, would improve the health status of the people of the state.
” The reports on a Bill for a Law for the Establishment of the Nasarawa State Hospitals Management Board, Law 2020 and for other Matters Connected Thereto, is hereby adopted after deliberation.
” I will slate Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, for the third reading of the bill.
” Also, the reports on a bill for a Law to Repeal and Re-Establish the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Board and for Other Matters Related Thereto, is adopted.
” I will slate Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020 for the third reading of the bill,” he said.
He also slated Feb. 8, 2021 for deliberations on a Bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Drugs and Supplies Management Agency and for Other Matters Connected Therewith, after the presentation of the report by the House standing committee on Health, chaired by Usman Labaran Shafa(APC Toto/Gadabuke).
Balarabe also slated Feb. 9, 2021 for the deliberation on a Bill for a Law to Establish Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH),Lafia,and for Other Matters Related Thereto, after the presentation of the report by the House Standing Committee on Health, chaired by Usman Shafa.
Shafa, while presenting the two health reports said that the bills if finally passed and signed into law, would improve the health sector.
This, he noted, would be through procurement of quality drugs, as well as enhancing quality healthcare service at DASH, Lafia, among other health institutions in the state.
Earlier, Alhaji Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the house, moved motions for the reports on the Bills to be deliberated and adopted.
Mr Danladi Jatau, the Minority Leader, seconded the motions.
The House unanimously deliberated and adopted the reports. (NAN)
