Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a lawmaker in the Osun House of Assembly, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the Fourth Alteration Bill to law.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Senior Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Sen. Ita Enang, announced on Friday that the president had signed the bill.
The law grants financial autonomy to state judiciaries and state houses of assembly.
By implication, the allocations to the judiciary and state assemblies would be paid directly to their individual accounts in the states; not through the governors, according to Enang.
Oyintiloye (APC-Obokun) therefore observed that that granting financial autonomy to the houses of assembly and the judiciary would further strengthen democracy in the country.
He said in an interview in Ososgbo on Saturday that with the assent of the president to the bill, democracy had received a new impetus; a new lease of life and a new sense of direction.
He said further that Buhari had given meaning to the tenets of separation of powers as dictated by founding fathers of democracy.
The lawmaker also maintained that the president had reset democracy and governance for better productivity, performance and accountability.
Oyintiloye pointed out that the assent to the bill would encourage the three arms of government to deliver more qualitative services to Nigerians without fear or favour.(NAN)
