THE Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) Lagos chapter, has commended the biosecurity practices of local farmers in the prevention of poultry disease outbreaks in the state.

The state chairman of the association, Mr Godwin Egbebe, made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.

Egbebe noted that adherence to international best practices in poultry biosecurity measures had helped the poultry sector in preventing outbreaks of the disease in recent times.

“We have achieved certain levels of success in the control of disease outbreak in the poultry sector.

“We have consistently encouraged our farmers on the practice of top-notch biosecurity measures on their poultry farms at all times.

“Poultry farmers must at all times ensure their farms are clean to forestall disease outbreak and its spread among their flock,” the chairman said.

“Adherence to biosecurity measures is very important in the poultry business. Random persons should not be allowed to access the poultry farms indiscriminately.

“Our different zones organize biosecurity and farm safety pieces of training for our members from time to time to forestall the outbreak of poultry diseases.

“However because of the pandemic we have not been consistent in organizing this training because it is difficult to get farmers to go online for pieces of training,’’ Egbebe said.  (NAN)
