Philip Atanmo, a former national vice-president, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra State chapter, has called on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of patriotism by investing in their home country.
“This is needful for those that have the resources to set up industries, instead of stashing their wealth in foreign countries, where they are of little value to them,’’ Atanmo said this during an interview with newsmen.
Atanmo emphasised the need for moderation in the way Nigerians got about their businesses in order to curb wastes and waywardness in the conduct by highly placed government officials.
He expressed disgust at the level of discipline and corruption that had impeded development in Nigeria.
Atanmo who spoke on ‘the state of the nation’ at his country home, Ogidi, said: “the answer to incessant destruction of lives and property in Nigeria does not rest in retaliation, but on the need for all stakeholders in the Nigerian project to work from within to arrest the ugly trend.’’
The Ohaneze chieftain, spoke of failure in the energy sector and other vital sectors in Nigeria, which had impoverished majority of Nigerians.
Atanmo, a professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus, expressed shock at infiltration of substandard products like Iron rods, and pleaded with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, to rise up to the challenge of preventing incessant building collapse and other sharp practices.
He condemned the infrastructure decay in some institutions of higher learning, especially the dearth of laboratory equipment for science students.
