A 39-year-old automobile mechanic, Emmanuel Uche, was Tuesday arraigned before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding his client to the tune of N87,500.

Uche was accused of collecting the money from his client, Mr Emmanuel Adimekwe, under the guise of repairing his Toyota Camry.

He is standing trial on a three-count charge of stealing, fraud and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that Uche committed the offences at Governor Road, Ikotun, Lagos on June 26.

According to Aigbokhan, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by converting the said money to his own use.

He further said that the offences contravened Sections 168(d), 287 and 314  of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Counsel for the defendant, Mr Chris Esemezie, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal grounds.

The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted N50,000 bail to the defendant with one surety in like sum.

Ariyo ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed and a blood relative of the defendant.

Shew adjourned the case to Aug. 15 for mention. (NAN)
