Muhammad Babandede, comptroller general of Immigration, has inaugurated the Command office complex for the Nigeria Immigration Service in Kaduna state.

Babandede said: “Upon assumption of office as the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service in May 2016, I envisioned an effective and efficient National Immigration Service, NIS, with the capacity to deliver prompt services in line with acceptable global practice. This is why we have placed premium on infrastructures and human capital development.

“I have always made it clear that for us to deliver quality services to our various publics we must invest heavily on capacity building of our workforce and as well improve on the working environment.”

Prior to his shifting attention to a befitting command office in Kaduna, he recalled that it had been the dream of the current NIS management to build and commission at least two new Command office complexes every year.

“The construction of the Kwara and Oyo States Command office complexes commenced in December 2019 and was completed in February 2020. In 2017, we successfully commissioned Command office complexes in Kano and Jigawa States. Abia and Plateau were commissioned in 2018, and in 2019 Akwa Ibom, Zamfara and Adamawa were also commissioned.

Babandede reeled out some of his achievement within the last few years, saying: “The Service under my leadership has executed numerous infrastructural projects across formations between 2016 and 2020. These include; command office complexes, Flag Houses, border patrol bases, transit camps, and accommodation quarters. Also, operational and logistic vehicles were procured within the period under review, they include: patrol vehicles, flag cars, buses and ambulances all geared at bringing comfort and welfare to the officers and men of the Service. We are currently constructing our Technology Building, which after completion, will enable the Service have a data-sharing ecosystem where relevant agencies can access data of citizens and migrants real-time. Our visa reform has helped the country especially on the ease of doing business. The Federal Government’s approval of a comprehensive Passport reform has helped to develop a robust Passport and migration solution.”

The Immigration boss also seized the opportunity to thank the Federal government for having been magnanimous in always giving approval to proposals and demands from the Service and particularly, the Ministry of Interior for all its unflinching backing.

He also thanked Kaduna state, under the governance of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai who according to him, made the vision of building a Command Complex in Kaduna possible by the Governor’s approval of the Land on which the Complex is built with all certified documents of ownership. He thanked him ahead for his promise of allocating another land for the building of a flag house as well as the promise to donate operational and Patrol vehicles for the use of the Command in Kaduna state. And for considering it worthy that the Service be included in the State Security outfit known as Operation Yaki.

Babandede called on the Immigration staff to build on the confidence already reposed on them by the federal government, while assuring Governor El Rufai, that all the donations on receipt, will be put to effective use in the overall interest and security of the State.

Additionally, he urged all immigration staff across the country, to shun indolence, indiscipline and corruption but rather, should embrace hard work.

“I enjoin personnel serving in Kaduna State Command to make good use of this new command office complex,” he added.
