THE Royal father of Ajara Agamathen Kingdom, Aholu Agano Toniyon 1, on Wednesday begged the Lagos State Government to provide a standard stadium in Badagry for the development of sports.

The royal father made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ajara, a town within Badagry.

According to him, it is disheartening to know that throughout Badagry and Ajara communities there is no standard stadium for our youths to display their sport talents.

“You can see what we are going through while hosting football competitions in Ajara because there is no stadium in Badagry and Ajara.

“There is no way we can develop our youths with their inherited talents without good stadium.

“Practice makes perfect but without this, our youths cannot compete with others from the other divisions in Lagos.

“Presently, youths are making waves in different sports activities and without a standard stadium here in our town, I don’t think our youths can contribute their quota to this development,’’ he said.

The royal father added: “Our youths are now engaging in different nefarious activities because there is no field in the city for them to display their skills.

“We are appealing to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode and the Governor-elect, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to come to the aid of the coastal town by giving us a standard stadium.”

The royal father said that he was organising a football competition tagged “Ajara Must Unite Football Competition” as part of activities to mark his one year coronation anniversary.

According to Toniyon I, this is to unite the youth in all communities in Ajara.

“I have donated a Cup for this competition, henceforth, it is going to be a yearly event as part of activities to mark my coronation.

“They started the competition two weeks ago and the semi-final match was held on March 24.

“The final match will come up on Thursday, March 28, at Local Authority Primary School, Ajara playing ground at 4 p.m., between the two communities that qualified.

“This is going to be a historical Cup for youths in Ajara communities because this competition will be a yearly event.

“At least, this will assist youths in our communities to develop their football skills,” he said.
