Bagudu presents N166.9bn 2023 budget

GOV. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state, on Wednesday, presented a budget of N166.9 billion for 2023 to the state House of Assembly.

Presenting the budget, Bagudu said out of the amount, N60.4 billion is for recurrent expenditure while N106.5 billion is for capital expenditures.

He added that the recurrent expenditure figures were broken down to Personnel Costs of N29.9 billion while overhead costs is N30.5 billion.

“The proposed budget which is termed as ‘Budget Enduring Legacies’, has the proposed revenues as Statutory Allocation coming from the Federation account, estimated to be N48. 3 billion and Internally Generated Revenues are estimated to be N10.2 billion.

“The 2023 Budget is guided by the strategic objectives of the State Development Plan 2022-2027, which are Improving Governance towards focusing on institutions through accountability, rule of Law, transparency and efficiency that deliver quality social service delivery to Kebbi State citizens,” he said.

Bagudu said that the budget aimed at enhancing agriculture and Mineral Resource productivity through access to improved technologies, Finance and services to increase income generation and provide food security and poverty reduction.

“This ‘Budget of Enduring Legacies’ is fit for the present, just as it prepares us for the future.

“My successor who will inherit part of this budget will be left a legacy of prudent management of resources and a state with robust finances.

“This is a budget that meets our challenges just as it anticipates the transition to come and guarantees opportunities in the face of difficulties and challenges as well as grows the economy and spread prosperity.

“It also aims to improve the Livelihood of Youths and Women in an inclusive manner through Job creation and social economic empowerment that delivers social progress and transformation.

“In the next year, we will spend in excess of N5 billion towards social interventions, human capital development and helping the poor and vulnerable,” Bagudu said.

The governor thanked the House for the harmonious working relationship that has existed between the Executive and the Legislature over the last seven and a half years.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Lolo, assured that the House would ensure thorough scrutiny and speedy passage of the budget.

He also assured that the House would ensure sustained cordial working relationship with other arms of government in the state. (NAN)
