Bandits kill police inspector, 3 others, abduct dozens in Kaduna, Katsina
Africa
BANDITS have gunned down three villagers and abducted 22 others when they stormed Birnin Gwari communities of Kaduna State.
The attack took place on Saturday around 7:30 pm when the bandits invaded Hayin Gada of Damari Community in Kazage Ward, killing two locals identified as Sanusi Zubairu and Kabiru Zubairu.
They also abducted 12 people and looted shops in the same community.
The Chairman of Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU), Ishaq Usman Kasai, who disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, said the bandits on the same day killed one person and kidnapped six persons at a farm located around Birnin-Gwari/Kaduna Road.
He said the bandits also kidnapped four others at Dajin Jangali and seized three motorcycles (Bajaj Model) from farmers at Kamfanin Doka area.
Kasai expressed concerns that bandits had continued to invade various communities and loot unchallenged.
When contacted the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Jalige Mohammed, promised to get details from the area before commenting.
In another incident, bandits on Monday killed a police inspector, Idris Musa, and set his vehicle on fire along Katsina-Jibia Highway in Katsina State.
They were also said to have abducted many passengers during the incident which occurred at Makera community, a few kilometers from the Katsina metropolis.
An eyewitness’s account revealed that the terrorists blocked the road at about 8am, shooting to stop a commercial bus conveying passengers to Katsina town.
Spokesman of the State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident to journalists, saying efforts made by the deceased police officer to repel the terrorists proved abortive and the criminals later laid an ambush on him where they shot him at close range resulting in his death.
He explained that the terrorists burnt down the deceased vehicle before they eventually abducted an unspecified number of passengers into the forests.
“They killed him on the spot and abducted many passengers who boarded some commercial vehicles from Jibia Local Government to Katsina town for their daily businesses,” he said.
