Bar attendant jailed 4 weeks for cheating hotel of N10,000

A Grade I Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a bar attendant, Rabiu Sabi, 25, to four weeks imprisonment for cheating a hotel of N 10,000.

The judge, Malam Aliyu Kagarko, sentenced the convict, after he pleading guilty to cheating and begged for leniency.

Kagarko gave him an option of N10,000 fine or serve four weeks jail term at the correctional centre.

He also advised the convict to do the right thing at all times and places.

The prosecuting counsel, Mr E. A. Nnamani, had earlier told the court that the convict is charged with cheating punishable under Section 322 of the Penal Code.

Nnamani said that the convict who resides in Dutse Alhaji, took a woman to a Guest-inn in Lugbe area of Abuja  and logged for a night at N 10, 000 per room.

The prosecutor told the judge that the convict deceived the management of the guest inn into believing that he transferred the money from his friend’s account.

“The management later discovered that no such transfer was made.

“The convict was caught trying to outsmart the desk clerk of hotel by escaping but he was caught the following morning,” he said . (NAN)
