Femi Adesida, organiser of the annual Rims and Thrills Basketball competition, says that new talents will be discovered for the national teams.
Adesida told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja that grassroots basketball competitions were crucial for the youth.
He also called for more grassroots basketball competitions to engage and discover talents for the national teams.
Adesida said the third edition of the competition which started on Saturday in Abuja, had 10 male teams and two female teams competing for honours.
He said the competition was put together to showcase the abundant talents in the FCT and its environs.
“This is the third edition of this competition and it is getting bigger every year in spite of the fact that we don’t have any government support.
“Our aim is to discover grassroots talents, showcase them and reward them in our own little way.
” We have talents here that can be snapped by various teams and even play for the national teams,” Adesida said.
NAN reports that in the matches played on Monday, BMF beats TNT panthers 36-28, City Chiefs beats Gilali 40-22, GVBC beats Life Camp 36-32, while KOK blazers thrashed Zone 6 basketball team 31-14.
The week-long competition holding at the zone 2 court ends on Nov. 15.
