THE Bauchi State Assembly has summoned the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Sabi’u Baba, to appear before it on Wednesday.

The SSG was summoned for questioning over the failure by the executive to implement its recommendations on the 2019 flood disaster in the state.

The summon followed a motion by Mr Sale Hodi-Jibir, representing Dissina Constituency at plenary on Tuesday, which urged the house to summon the secretary to the state government for questioning.

Hodi-Jibir said torrential rainfall had submerged buildings in Disina Town, and attributed this year’s floods in the area to nonimplementation of the recommendations of the house.

He also appealed to the state government to sympathize with the victims of the floods and take necessary action.

According to the lawmaker, one live was lost while many houses and farmlands were destroyed during the incident.

The Deputy Speaker, Danlami Kawule who presided over plenary, after a voice vote, directed the Clerk of the house to summon the SSG to explain why the recommendations were not implemented.

“The SSG should appear before the house tomorrow, Wednesday, and explain the reason for non-implementation of  2019 floods committee recommendations,” he said.

Kawule said that many communities were facing another threat of flood and no holistic approach had been taken to tackle the menace that ravaged communities in the state in 2019.

Meanwhile, Gov. Bala Mohammed has forwarded two names, Hajiya Asma’u Ahmad from Giade Local Government Area and Maryam Bagel, from Dass, for screening and confirmation as Commissioners.

The governor also forwarded four nominees for screening and approval as Permanent Members and a Secretary to the State Independent Electoral Commission.

Those nominated for confirmation as permanent members were Adamu Zakari, Taus Tafawa-Balewa and Abdulmalik Wakili, while Hamidu kwale was for confirmation as secretary to the commission.

The deputy speaker directed the Clerk to also communicate the nominees to appear before the house on Wednesday for screening and possible confirmation. (NAN)
