Bauchi to immortalise woman killed by bandits while defending son
Africa
BAUCHI State Governor Bala Mohammed has described a woman, Maryam Mohammed, who was killed by bandits when they wanted to abduct her son as a heroine.
Residents of Sabon Gari in Toro Local Government told reporters that the deceased hit one of the bandits with a pestle in order to free her son before they shot her.
The governor said her death would not be in vain and that his administration would immortalise her.
He spoke during a condolence visit to Sabon Gari and some communities in Alkaleri Local Government recently attacked by bandits.
He advised residents to join hands with security agencies by being proactive to frustrate the activities of bandits and terrorists in the state.
He said the security agencies could not defeat terrorists alone without the support of locals and advised them to be on the lookout and give useful information on any suspicious activities or movements in the area.
Earlier, the Chairman of Alkaleri LG, Yusuf Garba, said terrorists had been infiltrating communities in the area through bordering communities in Plateau and Taraba states.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda, who was in the entourage, appealed to residents to always provide the police with information that would help in addressing insecurity.
Our correspondent recalls that no fewer than four people were killed and several others sustained injuries when bandits attacked communities in Alkaleri.
A few days later, bandits kidnapped a village head and his son in a community in Toro Local Government.
