BAYERN Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has reportedly phoned up Manchester City goalkeeper, Stefan Ortega and his management in an attempt to lure him to the Bundesliga champions.

Sky TV reported on Wednesday that Ortega could return to the Bundesliga where he had played at Arminia Bielefeld until a 2022 move to treble Winners City.

Bayern are in need of a new goalkeeper because the comeback of Manuel Neuer from a leg fracture has been postponed indefinitely, while Yann Sommer and Alexander Nübel have left.

Their only experienced goalkeeper is Sven Ulreich, who has deputised for Neuer on several occasions in the past, including last weekend’s German Super Cup Bayern lost 3-0 at home against RB Leipzig.

Bayern had initially set their sights on Kepa Arrizabalaga and David Raya who however have moved on loan to Real Madrid and Arsenal, respectively.

Sky said that City have been informed of Bayern’s interest in Ortega but manager Pep Guardiola has said “we don’t want to sell or loan him off” because “we need him here” and would need a new man themselves if he left.

The report said a final decision could come after Wednesday night’s European Super Cup between Manchester City and Sevilla. (dpa/NAN)
