THE Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Danladi Jatau, has urged the youths to be agents of peace and positive change for the overall development of the country.
Jatau made the call on Saturday at Garaku when he received members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Agwada Branch, Nasarawa State.
The speaker advised youths to always channel their energies for peace promotion and development in the country.
He appreciated the NYCN for the award given to him and assured them of his readiness to continue to empower the youths to achieve their potentials.
“I want to appreciate you for the support, and I appeal to you for continued support to enable me to provide more dividends of democracy to the people.
“Youths are the backbone for any meaningful development.
“You should not allow yourselves to be used by any person but be agents of unity and peace at all times,” he said.
The speaker urged the youths and other citizens of the state to continue to support Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s administration to succeed.
Mr Bala Akuki, the council’s chairman, said that the visit was to identify with the speaker on the successful celebration of New Year.
Akuki begs the speaker to contest for the seat of the Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal constituency come 2027.
The chairman said that their call was based on the speaker’s leadership qualities and achievements in the Kokona West constituency and the state at large.
“Hence the need for you to go to the National Assembly in order to bring more federal government presence to the constituency.
“Our desire and prayer is that come next election, you shall represent us at the national level as you have distinguished yourself as a tested and trusted leader for our local government and Nasarawa State in general.
“We are equally aware of your tireless effort in uniting and providing job opportunities to the youth of Kokona Local Government Area irrespective of their tribal and religious differences.
“You have made it very difficult for people to know if members of the state legislature are from one political party or not, as you have united and stabilised the house.
“Your cordial relationship and interaction with the executive and judicial arms of government placed Nasarawa State at an advantage over and above many states of the federation,” he stated.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a high point of the visit was the conferment of an award of excellence on the speaker by the NYCN. (NAN)
