Be custodians of peace, Anambra government urges traditional rulers

The Anambra State government has urged traditional rulers to use their positions to instill peace, love and avoid anarchy in their communities.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra made the call during the 119th Ofala of the Idigo dynasty of Aguleri Kingdom as well as 24th Ofala of the reign of current Igwe Christopher Idigo.

The Occasion has a theme: “Aku Eluvego Uno’’ (aka wealth has started coming home), took place at Ama Igwe Aguleri, Anambra in East Local Government Area, LGA.

The event attracted dignitaries from across the state as well as government officials with excellent display of various ancient cultures.

The governor commended Igwe Idigo for embracing peace as his watchword, saying Aguleri had maintained peaceful coexistence since the current Igwe assumed office.

He called on traditional rulers to initiate measures to enthrone peace in their communities, so as to promote meaningful development.

In his Ofala message, Igwe Idigo called on politicians to strive emphasize on issue-based campaigns and refrain from campaigns of calumny and character-assassination.

Igwe Idigo urged the youths to abstain from thuggery and vote according to their conscience during the forthcoming General Elections.

He condemned the high rate of marginalisation of Igbos, calling on President Muhammad Buhari to retrace his steps and involve Igbos in decision-making process in his government.

He, however, called on the Federal Government to show commitment in completing the reconstruction of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and the 2nd Niger Bridge projects as well as improve education funding.

The monarch also urged that infrastructures in the region be improved on.

Obinna Emeneka, the member representing Anambra East in the Anambra State House of Assembly, and Chinedu Obidigwe, the former SSA to governor on Political Matters, commended Idigo for 24th  Ofala outing.

They prayed God to grant the Igwe more wisdom to guide his people as well as maintain peace in his community.
