THE Nigerian Youth Mobilisation Council (NYMC) has called on youths in the country to be politically decent and to shun all forms of violence during and after the 2023 general elections.

Its Director-General, Mr Abisoye Joe-King, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.

He said that the Nigerian youths were critical in achieving sustainable economic growth, “and as such, there is need for them to stand together in 2023 and beyond.

“Our work as Nigerian youth mobilisation council is to properly co-ordinate the aspirations of all Nigerian youth movements and groups.

“We are creating a network for Nigerian youths to deliver their block votes because in 2023 we don’t want to see scattered votes.

“We are also advocating for peaceful conduct of all youth groups in Nigeria by eradicating restiveness and socially delinquent behaviour.

“That is to say we must be politically decent in our conduct in 2023 and beyond.

“These coalition are going to unify all youth movements in Nigeria to work towards common ideas and national interest, not ethnic or religious interest.

“What we have today are voices of youths but we must speak in one voice and make our voice count.

“Nigerian youths are critical in achieving sustainable economic growth, it is on this premises that the Nigerian youth mobilisation council is advocating for youths to stand together in 2023 and beyond”.

Joe-King added that it was important for youth to vote people of integrity into various elective positions and desist from voting based on sentiments.

“Do not vote on sentiments, ethnicity, religion line as these will be sectional and will not have the Nigerian interest.

“If the youth must be leaders of tomorrow, they must have a say and they should not vote in a particular pattern.

“We want a pattern that will reflect national unity, peace and progress of Nigeria and that is why we intend to orientate the youths on what they need to prepare themselves for because we want change in our society.

“We will start the orientation and mobilisation by the second week in November,” he added.(NAN)
