THE Executive Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, has urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to be change agents and a force against corruption.

Olukoyede, while speaking on Thursday at the Kwara NYSC Orientation Camp, Yikpata in the Edu Local Government Area, urged them to be active foot soldiers, whistle-blowers and intelligence-gatherers against corruption.

The Chairman, who spoke through the Commission’s Head, Public Affairs Department, Ilorin Zonal Directorate, Ayodele Babatunde, said the country’s economy would grow appreciably if its youths performed their roles creditably.

”Creative energies of youths will be maximised when corruption is brought to its knees.

”Most of the problems confronting the country, such as kidnapping, banditry and poor infrastructure, aside others, are connected to corruption.

”So, all hands must be on the deck to tame the cankerworm,” he said.

Olukoyede encouraged the youths to embrace the virtues of hard work and shun fraudulent practices such as cybercrime.

He said it was profitable to earn dignity and fame through hard work and legitimate business.

“ ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’ is not a sustainable way of life, because there is no shortcut to wealth and fame.

”The fact that the rate of unemployment is high should not be an excuse to resort to crime.

”Act of criminality may deliver wealth in the short term, but there will be misery and gnashing of teeth in the long run,” the EFCC Chairman said.(NAN)
