MRS Mimi Adzape-Orubibi, the Executive Chairman, Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), on Friday sensitised officials of the state’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to the provisions of the amended revenue laws.

This is contained in a statement on Friday by Mr Jacob Suswam, Media Assistant to the Executive Chairman and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi.

Mrs Adzape-Orubibi in the statement, said the meeting would also address challenges hampering smooth revenue collection in the state and strengthen revenue generation in line with the amended Internal Revenue Administration Law, 2022.

She said the sole responsibility of the service was the collection of revenue on behalf of all the MDAs for the State Government, thereby making the meeting imperative to discuss challenges, get feedbacks and chart ways forward for the effective collection of revenue in the state.

She said revenue sources could only be sustained when the MDAs functioned optimally.

The chairman also highlighted some sections of the amended law, which included the harmonisation and consolidation of some taxes with Local Governments in the state, to curb arbitrary collections and multiple taxation.

Mrs Adzape-Orubibi said the amended law would streamline the state revenue administration in line with modern day realities, and called on the Heads of the MDAs to get themselves conversant with the amended law.

The tax Amazon thanked the Heads of the various MDAs and promised to sustain the interactive meeting with them for a robust working relationship.

In his remarks, Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Kyester Kyenger, said the meeting would improve revenue generation for the state.

Kyenger further added that the meeting had deeply helped in clearing some of the misconceptions held about BIRS, and called for the meeting to be held regularly.

Dr. Jane Aja, Commissioner for Energy, Science and Technology, also hailed the Chairman for organising the meeting and equally called for its sustainance.

The meeting had in attendance all management staff of BIRS, Commissioners and heads of departments and agencies in the state.(NAN)
