Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has offered automatic employment to the widows  of  the two Bayelsa-born pilots who died defending the country against Boko Haram fighters in the North-East.

Lieutenant Pereowei Jacob died in a helicopter crash  in Damasak, Borno State, on January 2, 2019  while Flight Lieutenant Ebitimi Owei died in 2015 when  the Nigerian Air Force fighter jet he was piloting encountered a bad weather  and crashed in Yola.

A statement by the Special Adviser on Media Relations to the Governor, Fidelis Sorowei, quoted  Dickson  as making  the announcement  while paying a condolence visit to one of the widows, Mrs Diepreye  Jacob.

Dickson  said  the move was aimed at encouraging and rallying support for those left behind by the deceased.

He said, “We are very proud of the services and the sacrifices that our departed young heroes made. We hereby announce automatic employment for the wife (Diepreye  Jacob).

“We hear you are doing your National Youth Service, you will get your letter of employment as soon as you complete your compulsory service to the nation.

“The Commander (of the  115 Special Operations Group, Port Harcourt, Air Commodore E. Ebiowei) has told us that another officer, flight Lt. Owei,  also died while fighting in the North-East. I hereby announce an  immediate employment for his widow.

“This is our modest way of encouraging our people in the service of this nation. Our people, from the beginning, have stood for Nigeria. We have been doing that and we are not going to get tired to demand that Nigeria does what is right for us too.”

The governor paid a condolence visit to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, on January 11, 2019 to condole with the air force on the death of  Jacob.
