USAIN Bolt, six-time Olympic champion is not going to participate in Diamond League races in Paris and Lausanne, next month because of a pelvic injury. Bolt said the injury would prevent him from competing as he would have wished because it would restrict his movement.
Announcing his withdrawal, Bolt said: “I’m disappointed not to be able to compete in Paris and Lausanne. I love running at these meetings but at the moment I am unable to compete at 100 percent. I look forward to getting back into full training as soon as possible.”
Analysts say the injury is the latest setback for Bolt, following his withdrawal one week ago from the 100m race at the Jamaican national trials.
Nevertheless, the 28-year-old sprinter said he would defend his 100m and 200m titles at World Championships in China in August. Bolt has had a poor season, running a best time of 10.12 seconds over 100m and 20.13 seconds for 200m, while Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay, his rivals, have been doing well. Indeed, on Sunday, June 28, Gatlin became the fifth fastest man over 200m in history, clocking 19.57 secs, and has also run the fastest 100m of the year at 9.74 secs, while Gay ran 9.87 secs at the US trials.
Bolt, the world-record holder at 100m and 200m, will receive treatment in Munich on a blocked sacroiliac joint in the pelvis before resuming full training. Bolt is an eight-time world champion.
