THE Borno Government on Monday released N700 million for the payment of leave grants and outstanding gratuities for local government staff in the state.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Emirates Affairs, Malam Sugun Mai-Mele, who disclosed this to newsmen in Maiduguri, said that Gov. Babagana Zulum gave the approval for the 27 local government areas in the state.

Mai-Mele however warned the heads of the local governments against diversion of the funds, saying that they should make sure they properly supervised the payment of the fund to beneficiaries.

He also warned the civil servants against paying any kickback to anybody.

He said that the ministry for local government would not be happy if the money is diverted for any purpose, warning that anyone found wanting will be sanctioned accordingly.

He solicited the support of all workers, NULGE and other worker’s unions in the state to move the state forward. (NAN)
