BORNO Government says it records 1,068 cases of Acute Watery Diarrhoea (AWD) in 10 local government areas of the state.
Dr Haruna Mshelia, the Commissioner for Health, disclosed this to newsmen in Maiduguri.
Mshelia said that his ministry and other partners were responding to the incident.
He said that 25 patients were hospitalised at the Benisheikh Hospital, Dala and El-Miskin treatment centres.
The commissioner said no cases of death recorded so far.
“No one has died yet from AWD. Out of the 100 cases of diarrhoea reported early this year, we had one or two cases of cholera at Baga Doro, Borno state,” he said.
Mshelia attributed the outbreak to people’s poor hygiene practices and their abuse of the environment. (NAN)
