BPE DG Urges Staff to Defend Reforms by the Agency
Business Briefs

VINCENT Onome Akpotaire, acting director, Bureau of Public Enterprises, BPE, has charged staff of the agency to always uphold the Bureau’s core values of transparency and accountability as the only tool to continuously defend the reforms and transactions carried out by the Bureau which have impacted positively on Nigeria’s economy.
He listed these as the Banking, Pension, Debt Management, Telecoms and Power Reforms among others, which have greatly grown the Nigerian economy. Declaring open the 2016 first quarter one-day in-house training for staff of the Bureau in Abuja on Tuesday, March 8, Akpotaire regretted that BPE is oftentimes known for only those failed reforms and transactions it carried out while the positive ones which have impacted on the Nigerian economy were swept under the carpet.
“It therefore behoves all staff of the Bureau to always defend the successful reforms and transactions done by the Bureau which have contributed to the growth of the Nigerian economy instead of being vilified for the failed ones,” he said.
The Acting DG announced that plans were underway to review and produce new Procedure Manuals for the Bureau as the present ones were no longer in tone with the realities of the times. While reiterating his administration’s stance to adhere strictly to the Bureau’s administrative and transaction processes, he appealed to the staff to imbibe the spirit.
Akpotaire maintained that as a knowledge-based agency, the Bureau would at all times, make training and re-training of its staff a priority to bring about efficient and quality service delivery, adding that “we will also create the enabling environment for staff to bring out laudable initiatives and quality output.”
He said that he would give priority attention to the welfare of staff as “a contented workforce guarantees greater output.”
