A Coalition of groups from the South East and South South has called for a referendum on the resolution of 2014 National Conference, saying such would provide a lasting solution to the problems currently bedeviling Nigeria.
The coalition also frowned at “hounding, arrests and intimidation of IPOB members, innocent youths, whose only sin is their loss of faith in the lop-sided, unfair and unjust unitary system in Nigeria where some regions are continuously treated as conquered people”.
Rising from a meeting, weekend, in Umuahia, the groups condemned President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision not to look into the Confab resolution, saying that “the document must be retrieved from the archives, and on early referendum conducted to determine the fate and future of Nigeria”.
Held under the aegis of Old Eastern Region Movement, the meeting was attended by traders organizations, students groups, traditional rulers and town unions, representatives of CAN, age grades and socio-cultural organizations from the South East and South South zones; Igbo in academia, South East professionals, Niger Delta Youth Forum, PFN, World Igbo Congress, among others.
