–

THE Ayakoromo community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State are now living in fear over the rumour making the rounds that the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff have ordered the militarisation and the bombardment of the community on the ground that some members of Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, are hiding in the community.

In a statement by Ekanpou Enewaridideke, national president, Ijaw People Congress, IPC, the community said this is purely a manipulation by some ethnic groups in Delta State to trigger off second military bombardment of Ayakoromo. According to the community, “we hereby refute the false claim by some rumour-builders that some members of the Niger Delta Avengers are hiding in Ayakoromo.

“The people of Ayakoromo are highly educated and law-abiding who are only passionate about things that move the society forward. Consequently, we want the public to disbelieve and reject any vindictive attribution of membership of NDA to any indigene of Ayakoromo community.

“The linking of NDA to Ayakoromo is a creation by ethnic champions in search of avenues for blood-letting. Ayakoromo had long been purified by Christians, Muslims and African traditional religionists and so can never be a partner of retrogressive ventures. The CDS and the Chief of Army should take it as a responsibility to investigate this matter and allays the fears of Ayakoromo people and eventually put an end to the daily exodus of indigenes to the forests.” – Vanguard
