BRIGHTON have signed Gambia winger Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle United for £30m.

Newcastle wanted to make at least one major sale by the end of June to avoid the possibility of breaking Premier League profit and sustainability regulations.

The Premier League clubs announced the Minteh deal, external at 0050 BST on 1 July, and the Magpies have also sold Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest.

The 19-year-old forward has signed a contract until June 2029 with the Seagulls.

“Yankuba is a young talent that has attracted a lot of interest, so we’re delighted to welcome him to the club,” said Brighton technical director David Weir.

Newcastle signed Minteh from Danish club Odense in June 2023 but he did not make a first-team appearance for the Magpies.

He spent last season on loan at Dutch club Feyenoord, scoring 10 goals in 27 league games while also finding the net against Celtic in the Champions League.

“He is an exciting attacking player with incredible speed. He had a very impressive campaign with Feyenoord, gaining experience in both the Champions League and Europa League,” added Weir.

“Now we will give him the time and support he needs to ensure that he settles in.”

Minteh has three goals in seven appearances for Gambia.

“Newcastle United extends its best wishes to Yankuba for the future,” said a statement, external from the Tyneside club. (BBC Sports)
