PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Babafemi Ojudu, a former senator from Ekiti State, as his special adviser on political matters.
According to The Gazelle News, Ojudu who represented Ekiti central senatorial district in the upper legislative chamber of the Seventh National Assembly, collected his letter of appointment late Tuesday, January 5.
Ojudu was a member of the Senate between 2011 and 2015 on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, before it joined other parties to form the All Progressives Congress, APC.
During his time in the Senate, he was the vice chairman of the Defence Committee as well as being the spokesman for the APC Senate caucus in the Red Chamber. He did not seek re-election in the 2015 general elections.
Before going into politics, Ojudu was one of the directors of The News magazine. He was one of the leading media senior journalists who devoted their time to fighting military dictatorship during the dark days of the late General Sani Abacha regime.
He was constantly arrested by the military authorities and was detained several times, the climax of which he spent nine months in a solitary cell at the State Security Service, SSS cell at Awolowo Road Ikoyi, Lagos.
