Buhari extends IGP Adamu's tenure
Politics
Mohammed Adamu, Nigeria’s inspector general of police, IGP, who was due to retire last Monday from service, surprisingly got another three months breather to his tenure today.
All thanks to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who made the surprising announcement of the extension on Thursday, February 4.
Adamu, who took over from Ibrahim Idris, who retired in January 2019, had already spent a total of 35 years in service and was due for retirement when the President went to Daura last week, fuelling the expectation that on his return to Abuja this week, a new IGP would be announced.
Nigerians will wait longer to get a replacement for Adamu, who will onerously tackle the spate of insecurity in the country.
