President Muhammadu Buhari wants full investigation into the cylinder explosion which happened in Jos, Plateau State, on Saturday to determine the cause
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has ordered for full investigation into the cylinder explosion at the Lamingo Plateau Water Board Treatment Plant Jos, Plateau State on Saturday, July 25. The explosion killed at least eight people and injured more than 100 others.
A statement by Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, said Buhari had also commiserated with the families of the victims, the government and people of the state over the incident.
In the commiseration message, President Buhari said an investigation into the incident was necessary to avoid recurrence. “The investigation should unravel the facts as to whether this was just an accident. Whatever is the case, we need to get to the bottom of this unfortunate and tragic incident,” the president said.
Buhari also prayed that God should grant the souls of those who died in the explosion peaceful repose and quick recovery to those who were injured in the terrible tragedy.
Realnews learnt that the gas leakage from the plant occurred in the early hours of Saturday and affected people living close to the plant. Most of them were discovered by other neighbours who raised alarm, attracting other persons and security personnel who moved the victims to the nearby hospitals.
Emmanuel Abu, Police public relations officer, PPRO, said the treatment plant had been cordoned off while management of the plant had also been advised to take necessary precautionary steps. He said a number of persons were injured in the explosion and were now receiving treatment at the Plateau Specialist Hospital. “Our anti-bomb squad took control of the area and they evacuated the affected persons to the hospital. Sadly, five persons died in the hospital while others are receiving treatment,” Abu said.
