BULGARIAN customs at the country’s Silistra checkpoint near the border with Romania have seized 9.090 million fake Ukrainian excise labels for tobacco, authorities said on Monday.
The smuggled excise stamps, split into 36 cardboard boxes with a total weight of 576 kg, were found during a customs inspection of a truck with Turkish registration traveling from Turkey to Russia, the National Customs Agency said in a statement.
The driver of the vehicle declared that he was carrying only aluminum and rubber goods, the agency said.
The illegal excise stamps were confiscated.
The investigation is under way, it added.
