Business woman docked over alleged breach of contract

A business woman, Makinde Fisayo, was, on Friday, arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over alleged breach of contract on the supply of maize worth N1.2 million.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, said that the defendant committed the offence between August and September at Mayfair area of Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendant criminally breached the contract agreement between him and one Adesanya Ireayomide when she collected a sum of N1.2 million to supply maize to the latter, but failed to do so.
He added that the defendant had, on Oct. 13, around 08:00 a.m. at No. 1, Ogunwusi quarters, Fasina area of Ile-Ife, converted the sum of N952,500 belonging to Ireayomide to her personal use.
According to him, the offences contravenes Sections 305, 383 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of breach of agreement and wrongful conversion.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Monday Gilbert, applied for bail for the defendant in the most liberal term, promising that his client would not jump bail, but would produce responsible sureties.
Magistrate O.T. Badmus granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Badmus said that the sureties must swear to affidavits of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction, with their addresses to be verified by the prosecutor.
He said that one of the sureties must also produce three years’ tax clearance certificate, while the other must be a civil servant or have a landed property worth N1 million.
The magistrate ordered the remand of the defendant in Ilesa Correctional Centre, pending the perfection of their bail conditions.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case till Jan. 20, 2023 for hearing. (NAN)
