PROF Emmanuel Nnadozie, executive secretary of the African Capacity Building Foundation, ACBF, is in Nigeria to participate in an African Trade Forum with a focus on transforming the continent through the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, AfCFTA.

Prof. Nnadozie will join other experts from development agencies, multilateral organizations, government establishments and the business community in Lagos, to address issues relevant to the ratification and ratification of the continental market.

His intervention will focus on types of investments in productive capacities needed to tap into new manufacturing and trade opportunities that will show how African countries can benefit from the free trade agreement that is being described as a game changer for the economic development of the continent.

The executive secretary will also be discussing how to develop national AfCFTA strategies to complement existing national development plans and policies for trade, industry, infrastructure, investment and macroeconomic management.

The Foundation which is the specialized agency of the African Union for capacity development is well positioned to provide the requisite skill for its member-states.

On  November 1, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s Vice President, gave the keynote address at the opening of the conference, the progress made by the country in its desire to ratify the AfCFTA agreement.

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, also participated in a high level dialogue together with Vera Songwe, the executive secretary of the United Nation Economic Commission for Africa; and Mamadou Biteye, managing director, Africa for Rockefeller Foundation.

The meeting is a joint undertaking of the Nigerian government, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the AU, and the Rockefeller Foundation.
