THE Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau, Mr. Ezekiel Mandyau, on Friday, ordered miners to stop all mining activities, as part of measures to check the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Mandyau in a statement in Barkin Ladi said that the measure was in compliance with the state government’s earlier restriction orders.
NAN reports that Gov. Simon Lalong, on Tuesday in a state broadcast directed all markets in the State to close with effect from Wednesday, March, 25, adding that “Only traders selling food items, pharmaceuticals and cooking gas are to remain open.”
In addition, all street trading, hawking, begging are prohibited, the weekly Sunday markets at Ahmadu Bello Way, Bukuru and environs are also banned. Equally banned are social joints, nightclubs, drinking parlours while restaurants are advised to prepare take away for their customers to avoid crowding.
“The authorities of Barkin Ladi local government council wishes to express its solidarity with the measures so far taken by plateau state government.
“Our able Governor put the measures sequel to the recent outbreak of the Covid-19, which had ravaged many nations around the globe with Nigeria inclusive.
“The lives of all citizens are so precious and of paramount importance to us as a Council, which explains reasons for the action being taken.
“Henceforth, all forms of mining activities are hereby suspended until further notice; anyone caught at any mining field will be dealt with appropriately.
“Again, trading activities in the council and other markets within the locality from Saturday, March 28 are hereby suspended; only food item will be allowed, ” he stated.
The Chairman warned all shop owners in the streets, towns, and villages within the area to comply with the order or face the wrath of the authorities. (NAN)
