Uchenna Okafor, the Anambra State commissioner for Transport, has urged the private sector and individuals to procure more tricycles and shuttle buses to alleviate unemployment problems.

Unemployment multiplied as a result of ban on commercial motorcycle operation in Anambra.

“We are making efforts to provide more tricycles and shuttle buses on the roads to alleviate the suffering of Ndi Anambra.’’ he said.

Okafor said this during an interview in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka on March 15.

The commissioner noted that tricycle and shuttle buses on the roads were made available through approval by the state government.

Meanwhile, the commissioner has debunked the rumour making the rounds that, government collected some money from some tricycle operators to purchase brand new tricycles and shuttle buses for them.

“The government did not collect any money from anybody. What the Government has done was to collect their data through their union, pending, when government will give them their own tricycles and shuttle buses.
