Smiles Communication Limited, an internet service provider, is expanding its broadband services to 60 cities in Nigeria by 2015

SMILE Communication Nigeria Limited is rolling out its internet broadband services in 60 cities of the country in 2015. The company has already launched its services in Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja and Port Harcourt and hopes to expand to 13 more cities before the end of 2014.

The company made this known while introducing Alero Ladipo, new chief marketing officer of Smiles Communication Nigeria Limited to journalists in Lagos, on October 29. Ladipo said she was delighted to be part of the team that possesses enough spectrums to turn around customer experience with regards to providing internet service in the country. According to her, she joined the company in order to create the innovative solutions required to provide world-class and cost-effective communications services across Africa.

She said Smile came into the market in Nigeria as a competitor and to provide the best broadband speed to its customers. “I am delighted that Smile’s vision is encapsulated by its value statement that everything is possible when done with humanity, humility, integrity and inspiration. We are already in four major cities in the country and from there we can expand to other cities. We are also looking into customer segment through Smile on and we are also plugging into the highway cities where you can travel from Lagos to Ibadan without break in connection,” she said.

Ladipo promises to bring her experiences to bear in driving Smile’s marketing and communication strategies and ensure that customer experience rates high. She pleaded with Smile’s customers not to hesitate to contact customer care officer for prompt response to their complaints.

On his part, Kenneth Esenwa, general manager, sales and distribution of the company, said the corporate social responsibility was driven by Irene Charnley, chief executive officer, Smile group strives to give back to the society in a measure that will address challenges associated with e-learning.  The company has taken a bold step towards enhancing education in Nigeria through information communication technology by connecting 50 public schools, in Lagos and Oyo States to free internet access. It has also given free 30gigbyte of internet bundles to each of the public schools every month and it’s moving to replicate the same gesture in Port Harcourt, Abuja and to increase the subscription as the needs arise.

The action of the company reflects the key agenda of the ministry of communication technology led by Omobola Johnson, minister of communication technology, to connect schools, government institutions, businesses, homes and individuals.  “We are out to pursue the course of e-learning in Nigeria and internet penetration. We have other plans in the offing which we will inform the public on the due date. For now, we shall continue to partner with the States to ensure the schools already connected are not starved of internet subscription. Our CEO has demonstrated her passion for this project too,” he said.
