Businessman, 30, in court for alleged assault

A 30-year-old businessman, Mohammed Haliru, on Thursday appeared before a Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja for alleged assult.

Haliru, who resides in Gwagwalada area of Abuja is facing a charge of  assult.

The Prosecutor, Mr Dabo Yakubu, told the court that the complainant, Aisha Muhammed of Old Kutunku Gwagwalada Abuja, reported the matter at Gwagwalada Police Station on Aug. 27.

Yakubu said the defendant allegedly slapped the complainant over an argument she had with the defendant’s mother, Mrs Fatima Umoru.

He said the complainant sustained injuries on her mouth due to the slap.

Yakubu said the offence contravened Section 264 of the Penal Code.

The Magistrate, Olatunji Oladunmoye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Oladunmoye ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must provide either their National Identity card or driver’s license.

He adjourned the case until Oct.16 for hearing. (NAN)
