Businessman bags 1 year imprisonment for illegal arms dealing

AN Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Jos, on Thursday, sentenced a 42-year-old businessman, Isah Idris, to one year imprisonment for illegal dealing in ammunition.

Idris who lives in Shagai Village, Mangu, pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of unlawful arms dealing.

The trial judge, Malam Yahaya Mohammed, sentenced the accused to one year imprisonment with an option of N10, 000 fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gukwat told the court that the case was reported on April 6 at Divisional Police Station, Mangu, and was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on April 31.

The prosecutor said that the convict sold 115 piece of 7.62mm ammunition to one Yusuf Abdullahi without registration as a firearms dealer.

At his arraignment, the accused pleaded guilty to the offence, which contravenes Section 27(i)(iii) of the Firearms Act Cap F 28 LFN.
