A businessman, Omaga Silas was on Wednesday docked in a Grade 1 Area Court, Karu, Abuja for allegedly defrauding on the sum of N195,000.

The police charged the defendant, 47, of Gidan Mangoro, Orozo area of the FCT, Abuja with criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecution Counsel, Olanrewaju Osho told the court that on Jan.10 the defendant approached the complainant to help him with the sum of N195, 000 in order to solve his personal problems.

Osho said that after the complainant sent the money to the defendant, he changed his location to an unknown destination and refused to pick the complainants’ calls until he was sighted at a hotel and arrested.

The prosecutor said during the police investigation, the sum of N30, 000 was recovered from him and could not give account of the remaining N165,000.

He said the matter was reported at the Karu Police Station, by Victor Onwuneme of Edo Street, Jikwoyi, Abuja.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Umar Mayana granted the defendant bail of N150, 000 with two sureties with valid I.D cards, statements of accounts and must live within court jurisdiction.

The judge ordered that the sureties’ addresses must be verified by the court officer and the police officer.

Mayana also ordered that one third of the amount must be deposited to the court as security bail for the defendant.

He, therefore, adjourned the case until Feb. 22 for ruling. (NAN)
