Businessman docked for allegedly aiding suspect to escape from custody

A 57-year-old businessman, Alhaji Adeshina Arinbinjo, on Friday appeared in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court for allegedly aiding the escape of a suspect from police custody.
Adeshina, whose address was not given, is charged with aiding the suspect’s escape from custody and failure to produce the suspect.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Clement Okuomose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 30, at Area K, Police Command, Morogbo area of Lagos State.
The prosecution said that the defendant stood as surety for one Babajide Shitu, a suspect in a case of obtaining money under false pretence,
He said the defendant entered into a recognisance to produce the suspect for prosecution when necessary.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 109 of Criminal Code Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until April 29, for a hearing. (NAN)
