Businessman docked for allegedly impregnating minor

A 38-year-old businessman, Nuradeen Idris was on Friday arraigned in a Gwagwalada Magistrates’ Court for allegedly impregnating a minor.
The police charged Idris of Old Kutunku Gwagwalada , Abuja with the precuration of a minor girl.
The Prosecution Counsel, Dabo Yakubu told the court that the complainant, Mr Adamu Mohammed of the same address reported the matter at Gwagwalada police station on Oct. 21.
Yakubu said that the complainant on Oct. 14, discovered that her daughter’s stomach was swollen.
He said that the complainant took her daughter to Gwagwalada clinic and maternity for a scan where the result showed that the girl was 20 weeks pregnant.
He said upon interrogation she opened up that each time her father was away from home, the complainant comes to the house to have sexual intercourse with her.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provision of Section 275 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Defence Counsel, Abubakar Usman in a bail application prayed the court to grant his client bail, adding that he would not jump bail if granted.
He cited Sections 158 and 159 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) to buttress his claims for bail.
Magistrate, Olatunji Oladunmoye admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Oladunmoye ordered that the sureties must reside in a verifiable address within the jurisdiction of the court.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 20, for hearing. (NAN)
