AN 18-year-old businessman, Destiny Orseer, was on Thursday arraigned  in a Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja, for allegedly stealing his former employer’s grinding machine part valued N600,000.

The police charged Orseer, who lives in Giri Gwagwalada, Abuja with theft.

The Prosecutor, Abdullahi Tanko told the court that the complainant, Mr Abdulsalam Sahabi, of the same address reported the matter at the police station on July 4.

Tanko said that the complainant on the same day went to where he kept his grinding machine parts, and discovered that the defendant, who was his former employee, had stolen one machine cover.

He said that the machine cover is valued N600, 000, adding that when the defendant was asked about the machine part he claimed to have sold it to a scavenger at a dishonest price of N1,300.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Defence Counsel, Humphrey Onyeukwu in an oral bail application prayed the court to grant his client bail.

Onyeukwu cited Sections 158, 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 and Section 36 (5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended to buttress his claims for bail.

He said that the defendant would not jump bail if granted and would not interfere with investigation.

The Magistrate, Olatunji Oladunmoye admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 20, for hearing. (NAN)
